You may just be thinking about divorce and wonder what that would look like. I can tell help you find out what is best for you based on your unique situation. Yes, you can also consult an attorney but in my experience some attorneys may tell you what you want to hear because they have an incentive of wanting you to be their client. For example, I have had many clients tell me their attorney told them they should file for sole legal and sole physical custody, yet the other parent was an active and healthy parent. This does not make sense to me. In my experience, most judges support children in spending time with both parents if both parents are capable and positive.
Sometimes when we are going through a divorce we think of all the negative points of our spouses. I understand this and it is part of the way we are able to go through the divorce process. But a bad spouse does not necessarily equal a bad parent in the eyes of the courts.
