Yes, many cases are not appropriate for mediation and when this is the case, I will refer clients to consult with more than one attorney and choose one that best fits their case.  I then work with the client to continue to support and coach them through their divorce process.

What do you charge? 
For Divorce Coaching:    $175.00 per hour
For Mediation:               $225.00 per hour
For Parenting Education: $150.00

I charge different rates for different services based on what services are required.  I have eight years of advanced education in psychology and advanced training through the Center for Families and Children in the Courts, JAMS and OC Human Relations Council in alternative dispute resolution and parenting.

Sound high or low?  Did you know most divorce attorneys charge an hourly rate of $150 for their paralegals?  Did you know most divorce attorneys in Orange County charge between $250 and $600 hourly?  It is all about perspective in life.

 I charge based on the service I am providing, as some of my services are more difficult than others.  For example, to mediate child custody with both parents I charge $225 per hour, but to meet with their children I charge $175 per hour.  I really want to meet with the kids and talk about how they are doing, while some mediators, especially attorney-mediators, do not do this. So I am willing to charge less.  Given I am an expert in child development, I can often provide a new perspective to parents about thier kids and also refer them to a support group or counseling if it would be beneficial.  In all honesty, I think it is beneficial for kids to have some outside help during a divorce.  They often need another person who is not a part of the family unit and not involved in the process to share their thoughts and feelings.   I don't provide children therapy; I simply answer questions about the process and provide support and guidance.  If, after speaking to the children, I think therapy is needed, I will share this with the parents.

What is Divorce Coaching? 

It is a term that can mean different things in different settings.  My way of coaching is to help people understand what their desires and needs are and to help them do what is best for them.  That is different for everyone and that is what is wonderful.  I am not an advocate for a certain position.  For example, I have had clients who choose to mediate and stay in their marriage.  One couple wanted to create a parenting and custody agreement in mediation but had no interest in divorcing.  This may seem odd to some, but it worked for them and they are still together.  Normal is a perspective not an absolute.  I am not here to judge...I am here to help create harmony and peace whether that be in a marriage or in a divorce.  As a mental health professional, I used to diagnose and then treat a mental illness.  As a California divorce coach I am here to focus on wellness and look at problem solving solutions that work for you and your family.
